I’m only guessing here, but that might be because the serious connotation of that word was destroyed rapidly over an eight-year period beginning in 2001. Today it has the baggage of a failed presidency and a couple of wars in addition to vague complaints about restrictions on liberty that the current administration is accused of enacting. It’s practically a one-word punchline thanks to people like you and the demagogues you support, Ms. Becker. So that might be why you haven’t heard it. Or maybe it’s because you’re too busy getting scared and angry to pay attention.
