May it be the first of many defeats

I’m pleased with the results of the special election in upstate NY,* especially because the guy who lost was being heralded by the brightest stars of America’s most ignorantly hate-filled. I was reading about the results in the NY Times this morning and I came across this from far right-wing pet project Douglas L. Hoffman’s concession speech:

“The challenges that we face are not Democratic or Republican,” he said. “They are not liberal or conservative. They’re challenges that Americans face and that we will overcome with American resolve.”

Well, that doesn’t sound so bad. There are issues that we, as a nation, must pull together to overcome. Sure, sure. Good to hear we’re on the same page there.

But then I kept reading. After only one paragraph, I come across this gem (emphasis mine):

“Thank you to every single person out there that joined my team and fought back for America,” Mr. Hoffman said. “This one was worth the fight. And it’s only one fight in the battle, and we have to keep fighting.”

Oh, you were fighting back for America. I see. Because your challenger was doing what, fighting against America? But, yea, let’s work together on these problems that are “not Democratic or Republican…not liberal or conservative”.

That’s some pretty good talking-out-of-both-sides-of-your-mouth shit right there. Offer some seemingly reasonable platitudes to lightly sugar coat how you really feel.

Stay classy, GOP.

*Note: “Upstate NY” = Not NYC in my lexicon
